Starting in September 2011, a new French immersion program will be offered at the Université du Québec à Chicoutimi for Canadian First Nations participants.
This program co-administered by the Centre des premières nations Nikanite and the École de langue française et de culture québécoise will combine the study of French with cultural activities related to French-speaking First Nations including a 1-week internship in a First Nations community.
Since Chicoutimi is a completely French-speaking community, participants are guaranteed a total immersion experience in French, thus accelerating and facilitating the language learning process.
In classes, the emphasis will be placed on developing oral skills. Participants will receive 15 university credits for a semester program. It goes without saying that learning French will help students build a better future for themselves in Canada.
